Hip hop trio De La Soul formed in 1988, in Long Island New York, and have been recognised over the years for their contributions to the evolutions of jazz rap and alternative hip hop music scenes.
The eclectic, quirky, and playful debut album ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ has been the band’s largest success, and has been hailed as a ‘hip hop masterpiece’ by the Michigan Daily.
De La Soul have been influential for artists such as Mos Def, and have won a Grammy for their Gorillaz collaboration for the single ‘Feel Good Inc.’. Their ninth studio album, ‘And the Anonymous Nobody’ was released in 2015, and featured Damon Albarn, Little Dragon, David Byrne, 2 Chainz, and Snoop Dogg.
De La Soul have also been nominated for other Grammy Awards, including, Best Rap Performance, Record of the Year, and Best Rap Album.
